Residential, mobile, and data center proxies: which ones to use for proxy farms

Proxies are half the battle when it comes to a farm. Sharing a single IP address among dozens of accounts almost guarantees bans, so the choice of proxy type directly affects survival rates. In short: mobile proxies are best for social media, data center proxies are cheaper, and residential proxies are the happy medium. Let’s break down when to use each one.

Data center proxies

These are the cheapest and fastest, but the IPs belong to hosting providers and are easily detected by anti-fraud systems. They’re suitable for parsing and low-demand tasks, but using them for account warming or mass posting on TikTok or Instagram is risky.

Residential proxies

IPs from real home users via internet service providers. They look natural, are more expensive than data center proxies, and usually feature pool rotation. A good balance of price and credibility for most farms.

Mobile proxies

IPs from mobile carriers (4G/5G). These enjoy the highest trust from social media platforms: thousands of real people typically use a single mobile IP, so IP bans are virtually impossible. They’re the most expensive option, but they’re ideal for aggressive campaigns on TikTok and Instagram.

What to choose for a farm

  • Warming up and posting on social media-mobile or residential;
  • one IP per device, rather than a shared pool for all;
  • Match the geo-proxy to the account’s location;
  • Set up rotation by session, not per request.
An expensive proxy won’t help if the behavior is bot-like. A proxy eliminates network-related risks; real devices and warm-up handle the rest.
